Wordless Wednesday: Kaolanlek Wai Kru

March 18, 2015 by Melissa Ray

When you need a “wai kru” demonstration, Kaolanlek Kaowichit is your man. Shown here performing the ritual dance (which symbolises paying respect to a teacher) at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.

What a coincidence. The little girl I adopted is learning WaiKru, and the finale or the conclusion is the “PlangSorn” aka executing the arrow, same as performed by Kaolanlek Kaowichit. Thank you. I’ll try to show this clip to the 6 years old girl.

Sway dee! Thought I was smiling at how impatient the gamblers look in the background, lots of paper rustling …

Haha. I wonder how many times they’ve seen the demonstration though?! Not sure about the other promoters but Mr. Somboon always books them for a wai kru/Muay Boran demo before the main event on Eminent Air shows. The tourists love it though. They seem to get more excited about the rehearsed fake Muay Boran fight than they do the real fights!
