Old Footage

2

October 18, 2014 by Melissa Ray

There’s not too much footage of me out there on the interweb, but I came across these 2 videos on the WPMF site the other day. The first was filmed at the press conference for the 2010 WPMF Queen’s birthday fights at Ho Kitchen restaurant in Bangkok. I’m not going to lie, it’s not the most interesting piece of film, but you can see me (in a light-blue vest) posing with opponent Joanne Calderwood (Scotland) and other fighters on the event as various bigwigs gave their speeches.

Joanne and I fought for the 126lb WPMF title on 11th August, 2010 at Sanam Luang, Bangkok. She was an extremely tough opponent (fighting at higher than her usual weight) and cut me with an elbow in round 4 (for which I needed 9 stitches post-fight!). I ended up winning on points after a very close battle.

The second video contains highlights from the WPMF Nai Khanom Tom show in Ratchaburi on 17th March, 2011, when I defended my 126lb WPMF title (for the second time) against Mesa Tor Buamas. I had won our previous bout (on the WPMF King’s birthday fights in Bangkok) on points. However, on this occasion, I lost on points. Although the clip doesn’t actually show any scenes from our fight (only the moment when the belt was strapped to Mesa’s waist), it does show what must be the largest picture there’s ever been of my face on the stage backdrop behind the promoters!

I’ve always hated being filmed and watching myself on film; however, it is good to now discover these momentos of previous Muay Thai experiences in Thailand. Something to show the grandkids, I guess.
